FTN: Who is arranging it?
MR: The lovely people from Herofest who have been arranging events since 1986.

FTN: When and where is the event?
MR: 9th – 10th February 2013 – Blackfriars Priory, Gloucester
Blackfriars Lane, off Ladybellegate Street, Gloucester, GL12HN
Also we now have the new county hotel next door for even more stalls and games.

FTN: Is this your first big event in Gloucestershire?
MR: It is our first time combining a kit fair with other sorts of gaming but we have been running events in Gloucestershire since 1986.

FTN: Who’s attending?
MR: We have a facebook page –

So far we have had over 250 people say they will be coming and another 300 interested. We have had a number of trader confirmations already and have had enough interest from other traders to more than fill the spaces in both buildings.

These include: Enigma, Mabin Rhys, Chows Emporium, Purple Sue, Gems Trading Co, Games and Comincs, Medlock Armoury, Having a LARP, Banquetry, Dougie the Wood, Huntly Wood, Norton Armoury, Runic Rose , Darkblade as well as more signing up every day!

FTN: What is on offer?
MR: For only £2 (or £3 on the day) you can come and visit all the stalls in both buildings, see the demonstration wargames and take part in the participation games being run by The Gloucestershire Games Bunker, the Cheltenham War Chiefs and others. There will be refreshments and a bar available. You can also take part in out LARP weapons tournament.

In the evening there is a costumed banquet and entertainment and we have made a superb deal with the hotel we are using so that anyone wanting to make a weekend of it can get bed and breakfast in a nice hotel for only £55 for 2 people.

More details on the banquet can be found here:

FTN: What is LARP’ing?
MR: LARP (also known as lrp and larping) stands for Live Action Role Playing. Fantasy LARP takes you away from a world of computer screens, mobile phones and noisy traffic, and into an extraordinary magical universe with amazing costumes, beautiful countryside and strange, mythical creatures.

You get to create your own character, change your appearance, and live as that person would for anything from a few hours to a whole week.

FTN: Is the event suitable for New Larp’ers and people who want to get into the hobby?
MR: Absolutely, this is specifically an event for spectators and shoppers rather than having to dress up and take part, although that is an option.

FTN: Are there any special guests, or Larp’ing ‘royalty’ attending?
MR: All five of the Herofest organisers will be there. Each of whom has at least 20 years of experience in the hobby, including one of the ‘old guard’ who has been in larp from where live role playing began, Treasure Trap.

FTN: Is there anything else you want to say about the event?
MR: Come along and have some fun, gaming is a great hobby in all its forms so come and see what’s on offer.

Cheers to Mark taking the time to talk to us and for telling us about the event. You can contact any of the Herofest guys through facebook or their events pages listed in the article if you want to know more. Any of our followers planning to attend? Any LARP’ers in our ranks fancy their hand at the Weapons Tournament? Let us know in the usual way!
