With the confirmation of Joss Whedon at the helm, we’ve been waiting for this…

Joss Whedon has signed a deal which will take him through to 2015 to not only write and direct the new Avengers sequel but oversee the entire franchise which includes the Thor and Captain America sequels but also the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy.
Avengers 2 may include some of the characters from this but everyone is hoping Spiderman will make an appearance somewhere too.
Tentatively, the release date should be around May 15th 2015 which will most likely kick off that summer’s blockbuster season.

But that seems very far away so it is all speculative at this stage. The only sure thing is Whedon’s involvement…
