Ok, this time the Ghostbusters III rumour is really gathering momentum… could we really be on the verge of a new Ghostbusters movie?
Dan Aykroyd, in an interview with Larry King, has revealed plot points for GBIII and some casting news – or lack of – too. Namely, it looks like Peter Venkman, Bill Murray, will not be part of the movie. This is obviously a blow to Ghostheads across the planet, but still a new movie is something to get excited about. Right?
“He’s a good friend, I love him,” Aykroyd said of Murray, “but he just doesn’t want to reprise the role. However, there will be a hole for him. If Billy wants to walk in the door and be in the movie, we will find a place.”
Larry King – himself something of a Ghostbusters Alumni – made it clear he wants back too: “It’s absolutely obligatory. Of course, you’re going to be in the film.”
As for the Ghostbusters in the movie, Akyroyd confirmed what we have suspected for a while now, that it would be a ‘passing of the torch’ tale: “We’re going to have to cast. We need four new ghostbusters. We need four new Columbia students.”
But it would’t be Ghostbusters if there wasn’t a suitable end of the world event and it looks like Dan knows what’s going to be the ‘big bad’ this time out: “It’s based upon new research that’s being done in particle physics by the young men and women at Columbia University.Basically there’s research being done that…I can say that the world or our dimension that we live in, our four planes of existence, length, height, width, and time, become threatened by some of the research that is being done. And Ghostbusters, new Ghostbusters have to come and some the problem.”
So, what say you? A new team of Ghostbusters? A dimensional catastrophe? No Venkman? Bittersweet indeed… oh, and rumours start here that we’ll see this in 2014, just in time for the 30th anniversary of the first movie. You Nerd it here first…
