With the Pacific Rim viral campaign kicking off in style last week (here) now we get a good look at what the humans are piloting in their fight to save planet earth…
In Guillermo Del Toro’s giant monsters vs giant robots movie, giant sea monsters called Kaiju threaten all of humanity. We fight back by building giant piloted robots called Jaegers. The blue prints above are the first good look we’ve had at them and… oh, my. There’ll not be a manga or Armoured Core fan in the house not breathing heavily.
This particular Jaeger is called Striker Eureka and is stationed at the Sydney Shatterdome. On his own site recently, Del Toro said this is “the most advanced battle machine ever assembled: the biggest, fastest and strongest Jaeger ever to walk the earth” and is “based on existing robotic / DARPA jet-fighter neural links [DARPA being Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency].
“The very first engines used to create the ‘muscle strands’ on the Jaeger limbs were Husqvarna engines and the first assembly line was an amalgam between Germany and US. Those were the MARK I,” del Toro wrote.
Pacific Rim is out on July 12, 2013.
