Tim Burton has been talking about the much-rumoured sequel to what still stands as one of his best movies, the ghost with the most, Beetlejuice…
Burton, doing the press circuit for his reboot/remake of his much-loved short, Frankenweenie, Burton was asked if we’d ever see the sequel and, being Burton, he managed to give a positive and negative response all in one, saying he’s basically just hoping for a good story first: “Right now, the writer is writing something and I have no idea when it’s coming; I have no expectations.
“I didn’t give him too much direction because I want to try to not have a lot of preconceived ideas about it. Sometimes you want to be surprised. But I love the character and if it’s a good script, then great. But there’s no point really for me thinking about it until I see it.”
Michael Keaton has so far not made any comment on his interest in returning, although he has always been a big supporter of the idea, however, Winona Ryder, who played Lydia Deetz in the original, a young girl who could see and contact the dead, has said: “I’ve heard it’s being written, but that’s all I know. So yeah … I guess it would be great if it happens.”
So Burton and Ryder are confirming it’s in the works, and while this by no means says it’ll happen, it does mean it has a real shot…
