Hands up anyone who remembers Condorman!
Anyone? I have vague memories of the Disney movie from 1981 starring Michael Crawford as a comicbook writer who becomes the very superhero he created – yes, Condorman - and gets involved in a KGB plot. Or something. In the movie the character could fly and, well, that’s it really. And while the Rocketeer could only fly he looked waaaaay cooler doing (just look at that poster above, shudder).
Well it seems that Disney, who are flat out making Superhero history with Marvel’s movies, want a stab at creating their own franchise and yes, the Rocketeer is getting remade already, so that only leaves Condorman.
Moviehole claim they have an unnamed source who says Robert Pattinson is linked to the part and: ”The idea remains the same [...] Still a pompous cartoonist turned superhero type gets to assist in the defection of a sexy young KGB agent. Emphasis would be more on action this time around though. They want to steer as far off from Johnny English territory as possible. But there’s talk of doing lots with the Condorman brand.”
But here’s the most interesting rumour – and a little disturbing – Disney plan on really developing the franchise and, after the first movie, are considering putting Condorman in the, wait for it, Marvel movie-verse. Now obviously this opens all kinds of Pandora’s boxes with Studio interference being the main concern, so we aren’t keen. In fact we don’t see the point of remaking this at all, but maybe it’s just us.
