47 Ronin was a movie we were looking forward to, but now it appears the movie is stuck in production hell
Carl Rinsch, a director who mostly worked on ads previously, was announced as the director of the Keanu Reeves starrer which told the story of an 18th century group of samurai who set out to avenge the murder of their master in a world full of witches, giants and monsters. Sounds great.
Now however, Co-chairwoman of Universal Pictures Donna Langley has been drafted in to edit the film, after its costs are thought to have rocketed to $225 million from the budgeted $175 million due to extensive reshoots. The fear is that the movie will now have to earn back half a billion dollars just to break even.
The Wrap is saying that crew members are saying the production has been a ’nightmare’ and that Rinsch ”buckled under the pressure of the ambitious shoot’ as he never worked in such a big production before.
The movie was originally set for November this year, but has been put back to December 25, 2013.
