Fede Alvarez says his 2013 Evil Dead will likely get a sequel

June 24th, 2018 by Marc Comments

Oh, man, the Evil Dead franchise has us all over the place in recent months…

First, the latest season of Ash Vs Evil Dead was fantastic. Then it was cancelled (here). However, star Bruce Campbell had hinted that if it was cancelled, they could perhaps make Evil Dead 3 (here). Then Campbell announced that he’s retired from slaying the undead (here). Oh, our emotions!

Now, however, Fede Amvarez, director of the rather superb 2013 remake of The Evil Dead – which had this awesome cameo at he end:

Sorry, we got side-tracked there, Alvarez has now said that a sequel to his Evil Dead is something that is always talked about between himself, Bruce Campbell, original creator and director Sam Raimi and and producer Rob Tapert and that it is definitely a possibility, but only of the story is right

“Look, I love those movies,” Alvarez told Entertainment Weekly.

“Making my Evil Dead was an amazing experience, it was my first film. So, going back at some point will be a possibility. I mean, I’m really good friends with all those guys, with Bruce, and [director] Sam [Raimi], and [producer] Rob [Tapert]. So, we always chat about it.”

He goes on to ensure fans that the wait will be worth it: “The good news — and I think that’s what sometimes people don’t understand — is, none of those guys will make any of these movies just because they can, just because it’s good business. They will only make it if they believe they have some good story to tell. A lot of people say that in this industry, but most of the time it’s not true.

“With those guys, all of us involved in those movies, we will just make them if we believe there’s a story that has to be told, and is awesome, and is great, and we believe that it will be better than anything that will be done before in that world. [When] we find that story, when we all agree on what it is, it will probably happen.”

Honestly, we’re fans of every corner of The Evil Dead universe, so to see it revisited in any incarnation would be a big ‘yes!’ from us.

Campbell himself less than a month ago took to twitter to give his blessing to the franchise continuing without him, saying there’s a lot of unexplored stories and crossovers in that universe (below). We agree… though it won’t be the same without Bruce.

What say you all?

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
