A man wrongly convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage against the U.S. is offered his freedom if he can rescue the president’s daughter from an outer space prison taken over by violent inmates.
So the synopsis is a bit bare – probably as bare as Pearce’s credit list has been for a while, at least in terms of big roles in big movies – and I’m a tad worried that Grace may be phoning this one in if she simply rehashes here role in Taken (I’m probably not the only one going to think that, especially when the marketing people put the suggestion in my mind by highlighting that other movie at the top of the poster!) … and I am definitely getting shades of Escape From New York, but as they haven’t called this a remake, reboot or reimagining I’m willing to forgive any similarities there may be.
And once you see the trailer I am sure that you’ll be willing to forgive nearly anything too … even the combined horror of Neighbours and Home & Away … because it really does look like it could be something special. All joking aside, though, Guy Pearce has always been a good actor and I think that this could be the movie that catapults him up a level or two, especially in the action genre. Will I be right or wrong though? Not too long to find out.
