Set to appear in the upcoming new season of The Flash the former Wrestling superstar, Adam ‘Edge’ Copeland, is to appear as the character Atom-Smasher. Famous for his ability to grow and his super strength, Atom-Smasher is a notorious super villain in The Flash/DC Universe.

It is said that Copeland will appear in the season premiere, currently in production.

CW, the network that makes The Flash TV series, describes Atom Smasher as: “One of the most powerful enemies we encounter this season. [He] has come … to kill The Flash”

In the comics, Atom is a hero; Al Rothstein is grandson to the villain Cyclotron and godson to the hero known as The Atom. Prior to becoming Atom-Smasher, Rothstein operated as Nuklon and had acquired his powers from his super villain Grandfather.

However, recently Rothstein took on a vengeful and unhinged personality, following the death of his mother, and eventually travelling back in time to save her.

At Comic-Con International: San Diego last weekend, producers said that while during the first season the particle accelerator explosion was responsible for superpowers, it would instead be the parallel Earth-2 that shall provide such characters this time round. It’s therefore reasonable to assume Rothstein’s connection to Earth-2 is likely to be explored.

This Earth-2 theory has merit in the fact that Rothstein died during the explosion, along with Ronnie Raymond who later returned as Firestorm.  It means therefore we may see some other characters appearing from Earth-2.

The Flash season 2 will return in October
