Based on the game of the same name, the new God of War movie is currently in preproduction.

Writers  Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan, who have also worked on the Saw movies, Pirahna and the upcoming Pacific Rim, say they want to go the Christopher Nolan route and ground – lead game character – Kratos in reality.

They said this will be a prequel where you meet his wife and kids before he was turned into the Ghost of Sparta. The first 30 minutes or so will build this family man before the attack by the barbarians when he is forced to call on Ares for help, resulting in his transformation.

They have also said Ares will be a much bigger villain than the game allowed him to be. They are currently redrafting David Self’s previous script.
