It looks like Han Solo may return to the big screen after all. When the new sequels were first announced, lots of talk was made about Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill possibly having roles in the upcoming films. According to Entertainment Weekly Harrison Ford may be keen on returning to the role of Han Solo, a role that thrust a relatively obscure Ford into super stardom.
The word comes from a “highly placed source” which leaves me a bit skeptical, but the source is claiming that “Harrison is open to the idea of doing the movie and he’s upbeat about it, all three of them are.” This comes as a huge to surprise to me for one, as Ford is not always open to talking about his time as Han Solo. I pretty much knew Hamill and Fisher would return to the roles that made them stars as well since their careers haven’t taken the high profile turn that Ford’s has. Fisher did some movies in the 80’s as well as some guest appearances more recently on TV. Hamill turned to voice acting and has done such memorable roles as providing the iconic voice for the Joker on Batman the Animated Series in the 90’s, returning to the role for the Arkham series of video games. His voice also featured in the 90’s Spiderman the Animated Series as well voicing the Hobgoblin.
Ford has portrayed many iconic characters over the years since the last Star Wars film such as Jack Ryan and Indiana Jones. However in an interview with ABC in 2010 Ford stated, “As a character he was not so interesting to me,” referring to Han Solo. Ford also seems to get frosty with fans that push for Han Solo references from the actor as well as not liking to talk too much about Solo in public appearances. This news has me super excited that the holy trinity of sci-fi nerdom may be reunited on the big screen after all. Let’s hope that this is something that will actually come to fruition. This news just made the Disney/LucasFilm merger that much more interesting.
