Rise of the Planet of the Apes faced an unenviable task last year. It took a much-loved franchise and rebooted but in such a way that it would tie-in with the original movies/TV series. But it did it with gusto, much of its success coming down to director Rupert Wyatt.
However, Wyatt is now looking unlikely to return for the sequel and the fault lies at the feet of 20th Century Fox. Why? I hear you ask, well, remember when Kenneth Brannagh had to walk from Thor: The Dark World because he felt it was rushed into production too quick? Well, it’s similar here. Wyatt was an unknown before Apes, and now he has signed on to several projects and because of thi,s and Fox’s insistence to get it out for May 23rd, 2014, Wyatt can’t commit to it.
While there’s no official word from Fox or Wyatt’s people, if it is true, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes needs a director quickly and to meet the 2014 release date production must kick off soon…
