Is it Hawke vs Phoenix for Doctor Strange role?

October 1st, 2014 by Marc Comments

This is Infamous are reporting that Marvel Studios have offered the role of the sorcerer supreme, Doctor Strange, to Ethan Hawke, after growing tired of dealing with their original choice, Joaquin Phoenix.

It was previously reported that Phoenix had entered final negotiations in August but the star failed to seal the deal and commit to the multi movie project.  Unfortunately the set release date moves ever closer, and so another possible lead had to be contacted.  That turned out to be Ethan Hawke, who Marvel allegedly reached out to on Friday, and over the weekend the actor accepted the role and has now entered contract talks regarding a six picture deal.

However this has yet to be officially confirmed by any party, but it makes sense that Marvel are keeping their options open.  Hawke is a talented actor and could easily bring the role of Doctor Strange to life.

Doctor Strange hits theatres, with either Phoenix or Hawke in the lead role,  on July 8, 2016.
