Is Wasp set to appear in Iron Man 3?

November 17th, 2012 by Marc Comments

Is it possible for a week to pass without a fun or exciting bit of Avengers news? Nope and we’re all the happier for it…

Our friends over at Nerdbastards have been doing a little bit of clue-gathering and gun-jumping to deduce that the very lovely Stephanie Szostak, star of We Bought A Zoo,  may be playing Janet Van Dyne, aka Wasp in Iron Man 3. And we love this idea.

But how did they get there? Well, let us tell you their theory…

Well,  Szostak’s casting was announced just before this year’s Comic-Con, and while her role is unspecified we get a quick shot of her shoving Tony Stark against a wall in the awesome Iron Man 3 trailer (see for yourself here). And that’s all we know for sure. But my dear Watson, let us look closer….

A tweet, as with so many things these days, started the ball rolling on this one. Inside News’ Roger Wardell (@RogerWardell) tweeted: When Stephanie Szostak’s role is for Iron Man 3 is announced, fans will go crazy.

But who is Roger Wardell? No one actually knows, but his Avengers Insider News has been spot on so far – he was the first to announce Falcon in Captain America 2 for example. And many believe he is a Marvel front to tease us. Mmmmmmmmmmm teasing. Anyway, I digress.

The plot thickens as, according to the Nerd Bastards, is reporting that a “tipster” has told them Szostak is definitely playing Janet Van Dyne and reports did say that an early Iron Man 3 script did indeed include Wasp.

We at FTN reckon with the Ant-Man movie coming and Wasp being his, well Hank Pym’s, regular girlfriend, this could well be true. We thought we’d see her in Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man, but this way, if Janet Van Dyne appears in Iron Man 3 she’ll have at least two movies to become Wasp in time for Avengers 2.

Excited yet? You should be…

We’ve posted an image of Szostak above and Wasp as she appeared in Earth’s Mightiest Heroe belows. Can you really say she isn’t a shoe in for the part? No, neither can we…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
