Although Joss Whedon confirmed it last week (here), it has now come from the horse’s mouth that Guardians of the Galaxy will be handled by James Gunn.
Yes, Gunn has now confirmed that he will write and direct the latest movie in the Marvel movie canon, following the Avengers movies.
The team, who honestly we still can’t believe will be in the Avengers universe- be we LOVE that they will be, is made up of a gun-toting Raccoon called Rocket Racoon,a walking plant monster called Groot, Star-Lord, a former NASA astronaut turned galactic crimefighter, Drax the Destroyer and Gamora, an powerful alien who is the last of her species. We really hope the team ties in with the Thanos story that was introduced post-credits in the Avengers movie. So that would have them feature in Avengers 2… oh, this could get complicated.
Having directed Slither and Super, Gunn may be just the right combination of crazy and dark. If he gets Joss Whedon’s seal of approval then who are we to argue.
Guardians of the Galaxy is scheduled for August 1st 2014.
