Locke and Key adaptation gets new writers…

July 11th, 2014 by Marc Comments

Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriquez’s Locke and Key isn’t just a great comic series. It’s a stunning piece of modern literature and art. And that’s why the idea of it in any other medium is at once exhilarating and terrifying.

The Hollywood Reporter is, em, reporting that Henry Poole is Here writer Albert Torres is set to write (he also worked on Ben 10 and the now forgotten Akira movie), Universal’s adaptation of the series with Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Bobby Cohen producing with Ted Adams, the CEO and publisher of IDW Publishing.

The series has won numerous prizes and has seen the writer and author celebrated for their work.

No release date or cast are known yet… although we believe that, if anything, this needs to be a series rather than a movie as the tale is sprawling and spans generations and will, frankly, be impossible to relay as a standalone movie.

“Locke & Key tells of three siblings who, after the gruesome murder of their father, move to their ancestral home in Maine. They soon discover the house has magical keys that give the bearers a vast array of powers and abilities. Little do they know (but they soon will) that a devious demon also wants the keys.”

On an interesting little side note, this is not the first time the story has been adapted for screen; Fox TV filmed a pilot a few years back but it never went beyond that. And, because I love you all, I’ve put the trailer below.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
