McFarlane: ‘I have Family Guy movie planned out’

December 3rd, 2012 by Marc Comments

Despite everything, Family Guy never looses its appeal. It is consistently funny and has proved that, with The Cleveland Show and American Dad, there’s life outside the Griffins’ immediately household and many stories to tell…

Combine that with Seth McFarlane’s recent success with Ted and it seems inevitable that Family Guy will get the big screen treatment.

Well Dark Horisons have the word from the horse’s mouth – figuratively speaking. McFarlane spoke last week at UCLA and among other things – like his hosting of the Oscars in 2013 – he chatted about the Family Guy movie and said that what he really wants is to give viewers and fans something they just can’t get from the show on TV:

“It’s hard to do that while you have the series going on at the same time. I think that’s why it took The Simpsons 20 seasons to figure out how to do it. We do know what the Family Guy movie will be.

“The Simpsons Movie, I thought, was hilarious, but the one criticism I would have is that it’s a story they probably could’ve done on TV. There could’ve been an episode that had that plot line.

“That’s the challenge with animation. You pretty much can do any story you want, so what is the reason for the movie? We finally hit on the answer to that question, and it will be something that would be impossible to do on TV.”

So, it seems it reallt is in the pipeline, but when is still up in the air…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
