Sorry. Breathe. And relax. Ok, it’s just been confirmed who’s going to write and produce on Star Wars Episode 7, 8 & 9.

Yes, aintitcool have confirmed that The Hollywood Reporter’s Borys Kit has confirmed that Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are now officially signed on to write and produce the new Star Wars Trilogy (STILL can’t believe we’re writing this – ed).

Although it’s not confirmed which ones they’ll write and/or produce, we’re just heavily breathing at the idea of Lawrence Kasdan coming back to Star Wars. He was, after all, the screenplay writer of two of the other Star Wars movies that you may be familiar with: The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. And he wrote the superb Shadows of the Empire games/comic etc. Not to mention another small movie you may be familiar with called Raider of the Lost Ark. So he know his Star Wars. Boy, does he know his Star Wars!

Simon Kinberg is the writer of another two of FTN’s favourite movies of the last few years, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Sherlock Holmes.

So, there you have it, you now know the pedigree involved in the writing and with a director announcement probably only days away and rumours of Ford, Hamill, Fisher and Williams all keen to return, it would seem ladies and gentle that in the truest possible way, STAR WARS IS BACK!

More as we get it.

It has now been revealed just how involved Kasdan and Kinberg will be with the new trilogy. They will write Episodes VIII and IX of the new Star WarS trilogy at Lucasfilm/Disney.

This clears up where Toy Story 3 and Little Miss Sunshine writer Michael Arndt will fit in, he will scribe the first new movie, episode VII.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
