Russell Crowe to direct Bill Hicks biopic

July 25th, 2012 by Big Phil Comments

Bill Hicks is a legend. Simple as that. This needs to be done well and if it isn’t there’s always the fantastic American: The Bill Hicks Story

Russell Crowe confirmed in an interview in Sydney’s Telegraph that he will be directing a biopic on the comic Bill Hicks.
Though no actor has as yet been mentioned for the iconic role, Mark Staufne -, a close childhood friend of Crowe – stated: “It is a huge role for someone, made all the more special, or downright scary, by the fact the director is an Oscar-winning actor like Russell”.
Casting will have to be finalised before production starts early next year.
Hicks, regarded as a comic genius by his peers, was very controversial during his performances. He died in 1994 aged 32.
