Horror master Sam Raimi gets chatty about The Possession and also talks about the Evil Dead remake…
31ST August will see the release of a new horror movie the Possession. Based on true events and produced by Evil Dead supremo Sam Raimi, it tells the story of a young couple whose daughter buys an old wooden box at a yard sale and becomes increasingly obsessed by it. Or is it possessed? Starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan of Supernatural fame and Kyra Sedgwick, Raimi says this movie for him is very different from his previous effort, Drag Me to Hell and is a real ghost story.
He also said he has seen a rough cut of the new Evil Dead remake and is thrilled by it and what they have achieved with today’s technology. He is also overseeing Oz the Great and Powerful which tells the story of how the showman that Dorothy unearthed behind the curtain in the original Wizard of Oz came to be in that position. And he revealed there will be a ride based on the Evil Dead.
Despite being well received by fans, Drag me to Hell left him slightly disappointed but gave him valuable lessons for other movies. A busy man indeed.
Talking to Collider, Raimi has given more details of his thoughts on the Evil Dead Remake: “It’s really bloody. It’s so bloody, it will make your head spin. I’ve seen almost all the dailies and they’re really going for it. It’s gonna be grisly and intense and non-stop. Definitely R [rated]. Maybe worse.
“It has turned out to be a tremendous amount of fun because it’s like an old melody that you write and you’ve brought in this really great, cool, young, hip jazz musician, and he’s riffing on it and showing you places it could go that you never dreamed. It’s very exciting for me.”
He also confirmed that David Lindsay-Abaire is scheduled to deliver a new draft for the Poltergeist remake in early October – shudder.
