Some cool news, well rumours, about The Avengers Director’s Cut

June 21st, 2012 by Marc 2 Comments

Ok, just when you thought Avengers couldn’t get any better…

The RUMOUR and at the minutes it’s just that, is the The Avengers DVD/Blu-ray director’s cut release will be 35mins longer than the theatrical cut… we’d heard rumours from director Joss Whedon himself that there were a few substantial cuts to the movie so this isn’t totally unexpected, however what is unexpected is the news that we may get it released theatrically in September.
Why? Well, at the minute it’s sitting behind Avatar as the highest grossing movie of all time, soooooooo a theatrical release may just be enough to make it the highest.
Sadly, as with all things, this is all motivated by money, but hey, if it puts Tony Stark and his band of merry men (and woman) at the top then we’re ok with it.
Avengers Assemble!

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….

It’s currently #3 behind Titanic and Avatar. While it’s unlikely it will make enough to overtake Avatar (the gap is just way too big) it has a spot at taking the #2 spot ahead of Titanic.

It’s worth noting that both movies had cinematic re-relases, Avatar with an additional 15 minutes added and Titanic most recently with the 3D edition.

It’s worth noting that this chart may be upset before the director’s cut of Avengers is released (if it does go ahead), Currently, the 4th highest grossing movie domestially in the U.S. is The Dark Knight, and with Rises due out next month, there’s every chance that it could do better than the last Batman movie.
