So, it’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, but at Star Wars Celebration this weekend it was confirmed that Boba Fett survived the Sarlaac pit and is alive and well after Return of the Jedi.
How? Well…
The image above is from Star Wars: Battlefront. It’s the battle of Jakku which, according to EA games: “Fans who pre-order Star Wars Battlefront will be among the first players to experience the Battle of Jakku, the pivotal moment when the New Republic confronted key Imperial holdouts on a remote desert planet on the Outer Rim. Taking place in the aftermath of the Rebel victory in the Battle of Endor, players will experience the events that created the massive, battle-scarred landscape of Jakku shown in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Players who pre-order Star Wars Battlefront can fight the battle one-week early starting on December 1, 2015. All other players will get access to this free content on December 8, 2015.”
So the scene above takes place after Return of the Jedi and leads to this stunning scene from the new The Force Awakens Teaser:
So, if you look in the top corner of the screen grab at the top of the page you’ll see the Star Destroyer crash into the ground but the important thing is the Boba Fett is there when it happens and since we know that all Star Wars stuff is now canon, then he’s still around.
So, what does this mean? Well it could mean we’ll see him in one of the upcoming episodes. Or maybe not, but the important thing is that, even in the new canon, Fett didn’t die in a really silly way or, as Samuel L Jackson once put it, he didn’t go out like a b@#ch.
We love Star Wars so much right now…
