STAR WARS: Disney announces scheduled release for new trilogy and standalone films

April 17th, 2013 by Irwin Fletcher 9 Comments

Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm have confirmed plans for a Star Wars film to be released every year beginning in 2015 with Episode VII.

The news was announced at CinemaCon in Las Vegas were it was revealed that the releases will alternate between standalone films and the new trilogy every summer.

We all knew that Disney were targeting 2015 for Episode VII, but a summer date had not yet been officially confirmed. Also while the standalone films are old news, the fact that we’ll be getting a Star Wars movie every summer is epic news. Who wants to go up against Star Wars every summer?

We still don’t know how many standalone films they are planning on making at this time in addition to the new trilogy. But if what they say is true that means at least two, one after VII and another after VIII. With a possible third after the conclusion of the new trilogy is my guess.

That also means they’re basically confirming Episode: VIII for 2017 and Episode: IX for 2019!
