Well we knew it was only a matter of time until we had more principal characters added to Star Wars: Episode VII and we were right. Em, yay us!
The addition of Lupita Nyong’o isn’t really a big surprise as she’s been attached for a while and many were surprised that she wasn’t in the original announcement by Lucasfilm/Disney a few weeks ago – we wonder if she will still, as was the rumour, be related to Obi-Wan?
However Gwendoline Christie was totally out of the blue but we certainly welcome it – she is fantastic in Game of Thrones and we can’t wait to see what she brings to the Skywalker story…
Press Release from StarWars.com
Lupita Nyong’o joins the recently announced cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. This year, her breakthrough performance in 12 Years a Slave earned her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Gwendoline Christie, currently starring in the hit television series Game of Thrones as Brienne of Tarth, has also been cast in the production. She can next be seen in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2.
“I could not be more excited about Lupita and Gwendoline joining the cast of Episode VII,” says Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. “It’s thrilling to see this extraordinarily talented ensemble taking shape.”
