Super survey shines light on superheroes’ secrets

June 1st, 2013 by Marc Comments

Ever since they first appeared on the pages of Marvel and DC Comics, superheroes have always enjoyed a special place in our hearts. In almost every strip, TV show and film, they somehow overcome the odds and rescue people in distress, and today they enjoy more popularity than ever with good reason.

The success of recent superhero films such as Avengers Assemble, the Iron Man trilogy and the Dark Knight series have given superhero fans much to get excited about. However, with so many superhero movies currently being screened in cinemas throughout the world, the debate over which one is the best has intensified; as well as which one has the coolest costume, gadgets and so on.

Dark Knight the king?

A survey from ladbrokes games of superhero film fans gave some surprising answers to questions about films in this ever-improving genre. The main one about the greatest superhero film of all time saw The Dark Knight come out on top with 19% of the vote. 21% of men said it was the best, while 17.5% of women said they preferred Avengers Assemble over any other superhero film.

The Dark Knight Rises, came second in the survey with both genders, although that seems to be the only similarity between men and women in the poll. When asked which superhero was the toughest, 29% of men went for The Hulk. Nearly 20% of women thought that, excluding Superman, Batman was the toughest, closely followed by The Hulk and Wolverine.

Not keen on green

Although many recent attempts to bring superheroes to the big screen have been a success, some of the failures stick in the mind. The survey found that 22% said Catwoman was the worst film in the genre ever, with Elektra second on 15%.

When asked which superhero film was the most overrated, 17.5% said The Incredible Hulk. This isn’t a surprise, as neither reboot caused a big splash at the box office. As for the question of which two superheroes fans would like to see go head-to-head, Batman vs. Iron Man was the first choice, with 19.1% saying they wanted to see a fight between the two happen.

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
