Looper director releases exclusive audio commentary for the cinema

January 14th, 2013 by Marc Comments

Ok, we loved Looper, and the idea of learning more about it certainly isn’t repulsive to us… and we really love this idea, however it might work better on home release?

Looper writer and director Rian Johnson has managed to crack something movie studios have worked on for years – a way to get the audience to return for a second viewing. ‘How does he do such witccraft?’ I hear you shout, well, it’s simple, really.

He has released an all-new audio commentary for you do download and listen to in the cinema on your MP3 player, that talks about filming, writing and production. Cool, huh?

On the Looper Tumblr account he wrote: “I recorded a commentary track to be downloaded, put on an iPod and listened to in the theater as you’re watching Looper. “It is totally different from the commentary track that will be on the Blu-ray/DVD, a bit more technical and detailed.”

He was asked to do this when he released The Brothers Bloom in 2008 by fans on Twitter etc, but this time he thought he’d jump the gun himself…

What do you think? Is this a fantastic idea or does the idea of sitting in a cinema surrounded by people with earphones horrify you?

Let us know…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
