Due to the success of teen novels such as the Hunger Games, Twilight Saga and Sookie Stockhouse (True Blood), Hollywood has begun adapting The Mortal Instruments (Book 1: City of Bones) by Cassandra Clare. The novels concern Clary Fray, a teenager who finds her mum has been attacked and taken from their home in New York City by a demon. She then discovers that she is decended from a very long bloodline of Angels who have been in a battle for many centuaries with demons.
Though filming hasn’t started just yet, there have been a number of cast rumours recently. Lily Collins (The Blind Side, Priest) and Jamie Campbell Bower (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Parts 1 &2) have been confirmed in the the title roles as Clary Fray and Jace Wayland. There are now rumours that Kevin Durand (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) and Robert Maillet (Sherlock Holmes) may be cast as Pangborn and Blackwell, who are Valentine’s (the main villain) henchman. With a release date of 2013, chances are this could be next summer’s teen blockbuster.
