With Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics’ new Tomb Raider game being hailed as a success is it any surprise that this is in the works? Again.
It looks like, with ten years past since the last Angelina Jolie Tomb Raider, it’s time to get the movies up and running again. The new game starts off with a 21-year-old Lara Croft shipwrecked and on the journey that will turn her into the world’s greatest archeologist. Well, after Indy, obviously.
Crystal Dynamics want to be very hands on with the movie(s) this time out – much like Marvel with Avengers Phase I – and are working with GK Films to adapt the film which will reportedly to follow a similar storyline. Crystal Dynamics head Darrell Gallagher says: “They are working from this new take that we’ve given them. It’s a good partnership. It was important for both of us to have a cohesive version of the franchise. We didn’t want to see a film version that was a continuation of the old ‘Tomb Raider’ films.”
Personally I think there’s a great Tomb Raider movie waiting to be made and while I liked the first two – well, for one reason, really – I hope to see a dark, complex thriller full of deep themes of mysticism and morality. With a hot woman in shorts shooting monsters.
