Things continue to move forward with Transformers 4 and we continue to be split down the middle at FTN HQ with some of us excited and the rest bored…
Firstly, it looks like the setting of the next movie may be decided and – shock – it’s not just for plot purposes.
Yes, the movie is heading for China or so say the rumours. The thinking is that Dreamworks will partner with a Chinese production company and this will allow it a country-wide release there. Oddly, and this is something I only learned last week – and now it’s popped up again – China only shows movies that are either IMAX and/or 3D. And given the franchise, it’s likely this will be both.
On top of that, if the movie is part-filmed there and/or co-produced there it means it will be certainly be screened there. If it’s produced in this way it means it will be classified as a ‘domestic’ movie and will be given priority in the cinema schedulings. Sneaky.
If this all works out it means Transfomers 4 will be one of the 34 foreign movies released in China that year. And don’t forget, China is the second biggest film market on the planet (second only to Japan). So it looks like, given the plans, there’ll be more Transformers movies coming after this…
However, a Paramount spokesperson says the script to the movie is still being written, and the film is presently “not a Chinese co-production and that’s where things stand right now.”
On the casting front, after casting Mark Wahlberg (shudder), Michael Bay is – shock – looking for a younger cast too. One of which will be Wahlberg’s daughter who will no doubt be crazy hot and mixed up in intergalactic civil war.
THR is reporting that the casting choices are being narrowed as I write. The female role will got to:
Isabelle Cornish, sister of Australian actress Abbie Cornish (Limitless); Nicola Peltz, who appeared in M. Night Shyamalan’s Paramount movie The Last Airbender and has a part in A&E’s Bates Motel; Margaret Quallay, the daughter of actress Andie MacDowell; and Gabriella Wilde, who is in the new Carrie movie.
And the potentials to play the female lead’s boyfriend are: Luke Grimes, who appeared on ABC’s Brothers & Sisters and is in Taken 2; Landon Liboiron, who co-starred on Fox’s Terra Nova and will be seen in the upcoming Netflix series Hemlock Grove; Australian Brenton Thwaites, who starred in the telefilm Blue Lagoon: The Awakening; relative newcomer Jack Reynor; and Weeds co-star Hunter Parrish.
Let us if you care or if you’re totally jaded. We’re split about it ourselves…
