Wait, did M Night Shyamalan just talk about the second and third Last Airbender movies?!

Let’s get this straight before we start, we LOVE Avatar: The Last Airbender.

And we loved that M Night Shyamalan made the movie and we’ll even go so far as to say there’s a few parts we almost sort of like.

BUT overall we think the movie was a massive, massive dis-service to the animated series. Which is awesome. Did we mention?

Anyway…

Shyamalan has been chatting to MTV and admits that, although not officially, he has started working on the sequels to The Last Airbender.

Wut?!

“I do [have things mapped out]. The third is more ambiguous, but the second one, I’ve written a draft that I’m really happy with and is darker and richer, and it has a wonderful antagonist in it in Azula, who’s kind of like our only real, pure antagonist in the series, so I’m excited about that,” says the Sixth Sense director.

He also said that there was some very cool scenes filmed that will not be released in the upcoming home release… because they will be used in the sequels?! Well, if it’s unofficial he’s mighty cocky (and as Han Solo always (well, once) says: “Don’t get cocky!”): “We shot [an amazing scene with the Kyoshi Warriors], and we spent an unbelievable amount of time choreographing them. And they just distracted from the movie, because the movie wasn’t about them.

“I probably won’t show the Kyoshi Warriors [on the DVD] because I want to save them for the second movie, because I’m going to have to introduce them all over again.”

So this has us wondering if, given the popularity of Avatar: The Legend of Korra (a sequel to Avatar: The Last Airbender), could Paramount be considering making these sequels?

Although the first movie was an all-round disappointment, it made money and we know that, despite his recent dry run, Shyamalan can make good movies  (Unbreakable and Signs are two of my favourite movies).

Would you be willing to give him another chance with Aang and the gang? I think I would.

Probably…

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife.
