Big news on the Dark Tower front as Warners get ready to say yes or no…
Deadline is reporting that Warner Brothers is waiting for a new script from Akia Goldsman for the first part of the Gunslinger saga based on Stephen King’s now eight book-long epic Dark Tower series.
Once they get the script the word is that within two weeks they’ll decide if they will go ahead with the massive project that still is touted to be three movies and two TV series (Which HBO was attached to). This will be a bigger undertaking that Lord of the Rings and something that MUST be done right or a league of fans will be in uproar as the story of Roland of Gilead is close to many readers’ – myself included – hearts.
Now it has aslo emerged that Javier Bardem, soon to be seen in new James Bond movie Skyfall, who was set to play Roland Deschain, is no longer attached. And the studio is interested in bringing on none other than Russell Crowe.
I have mixed feeling on this as I loved the idea of Bardem as Roland, but I reckon Crowe could pull it off well too and, with Man of Steel only a year away (in which he plays Jor-El, Superman’s biological father), he’ll assure an audience will take notice of The Dark Tower.
I want to take the journey with the ka-tet, but I want it to be perfect…
