WATCH: Russell Crowe’s Jekyll & Hyde looks great in the Mummy

May 16th, 2017 by Marc 1 Comment

Ever hear the phrase ‘sometimes you must send a monster to catch a monster’? Well, it looks like it’s at the heart of The Mummy reboot.

The movie, which stars Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella, has so far looked disappointingly like the first Brendan Frazer movie of the same title.

However, there does seem to be one big difference… Russell Crowe looks like, not only is he going to be a badass, but he’s a big part of the story as Dr Jeykll and Mr Hyde.

The new video below (and that image above! Seriously!) centres on Jekyll and Hyde’s role in the movie and it looks like it’ll be more substantial that expected as he runs a secret monster hunting society from the Natural History Museum called Prodigium… and he has major anger management issues.

Writer and director of The Mummy, Alex Kurtzman, has this to say: “We wanted to understand the context of The Mummy in the larger world. And we wanted to know that monsters existed for millennia. And we knew that as the story evolved there was going to be an organization that was maybe cataloging them, following them, collecting them. That would determine the good ones from the bad ones. That was sort of the keeper of that secret history.”

Looks like Crowe and his team of monster hunters will be the heart of the new Universal Monsters Cinematic Universe. Clever.

Check out the footage below and let us know what you think…

Russell Crowe plays Dr. Jekyll, who runs Prodigium, a society dedicated to fighting monsters. But is that Mr. Hyde we spot?

The Mummy is an upcoming American film directed by Alex Kurtzman and written by Jon Spaihts and Christopher McQuarrie. It is a reboot of The Mummy franchise and is intended to be the first installment in the Universal Monsters shared universe. The film stars Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance and Russell Crowe.

The film is scheduled to be released on June 9, 2017 in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D.

Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
