WATCH: The first The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug trailer

June 11th, 2013 by Stuart Miller Comments

Starting where the first film left off, Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman), the dwarves and Gandalf (Ian McKellen) continue their journey to the lonely mountain, where the rest of the dwarves seek to get back their home city from the dragon Smaug (Benedict Cumberbatch)

The trailer seems to be going for a more adventurous feel which will make fans of the book happy after the first film seemed to concentrate more on character. We are introduced to a few new characters as well including Lee Pace’s Elvenking Thranduil, Evangeline Lily as elf warrior Tauriel, Mikael Persbrandt as shape-changer Beorn, Luke Evans as Bard the Bowman and returning back to the fold is Orlando Bloom’s Legolas.

The film is set for a December 13th release date with the final part of the trilogy coming out next December.
