Colton Haynes promoted to series regular on Arrow

Colton Haynes made his debut on the CW’s hit new series Arrow a few weeks ago as Roy Harper and it would appear his role is only going to get larger. Originally only slated to appear in a few episodes in the first season as a love interest for Thea Queen, THR says that the actor will be promoted to a series regular, along with Emily Bett Rickards ( Felicity Smoak ) for the show’s second season. Bullseye!

Harper has appeared in the comics for many years and served as a side-kick to Green Arrow first going by the name Speedy and later as a hero in his own right as Arsenal and then Red Arrow. It remains to be seen if his character will fight alongside Oliver Queen in the series, but it certainly seems a likely possibility with his role being expanded. Harper in the comics was also of Navajo heritage and struggled with substance abuse, and later became a single father. These would provide character building moments but it’s unknown if any of these will make it to the show. I wonder what name he’ll go by?

The  first season of Arrow is about 2/3 done with the second season set to air this Fall. It stars Stephen Amell, Colin Donnell, Willa Holland, Emily Bett Rickards, Susanna Thompson, Davis Ramsey, Katie Cassidy, Paul Blackthorne, and John Barrowman. The show airs on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT and will return on March 20th.
