Edward Woodward’s iconic TV series The Equalizer is set for a movie reboot starring one of today’s best actors.
Yes, the fantastic show that featured a lone man who walked the city streets at night helping people, solving crimes and giving out vigilante justice – no, not Batman – is set for a whole new audience
Sony Pictures will begin shooting with Denzel Washington in the lead as Robert McCall on April 8th 2013 and it will be written by Richard Wenk.
The budget is set at a mere $50million (mere?! – ed) and it’s hoped that this will be the beginning of a new franchise.
No director is attached yet but, among others, Taken’s Pierre Morel, Warrior’s Gavin O’Connor, Drive’s Nicolas Winding Refn and The Raid’s Gareth Evans are all attached. Any of these directors, while very different, would be excellent choices.
Dark Horizons are reporting that: “The film keeps the basic premise, but then goes off on its own tangent with Washington as a “solitary, monastic figure who hates injustice and devotes himself to helping people who are being victimized.”
As long as it’s done well – and the names attached certainly seem to say it should be – we’re firmly onboard.
Oh and remember the opening credits? No? Here you go…
