Evan Peters joining MCU’s WandaVision as X-Men movies’ Quicksilver?

June 5th, 2020 by Marc Comments

An interesting new rumour has hit the interwebs that X-Men star Evan Peters – who plays Quicksilver in those movies – has been cast in the MCU series WandaVision.

Now, this could be pretty big news when you bear in mind just who, in the Marvel universe, Quicksilver is.

In the comics Quicksilver, AKA Pietro Maximoff, is the brother of Wanda Maximoff, AKA Scarlet Witch – the star of WandaVision along with Paul Bettany’s Vision.

In the MCU we first met Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) and Pietro in Avengers: Age of Ultron, however, in the MCU Pietro was played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson and was killed before the end of that movie.

So, in a short period of time we had two versions of the same character in two very different universes.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that in the comics – and in the X-Men movies – Wanda and Pietro are the children of Magneto however this couldn’t happen in the MCU as at that stage Marvel didn’t have the rights to the X-Men characters but since the Fox merger this is no longer an issue.

Now, obviously Peters could be playing a different character altogether, but I have a sneaky suspicion that he will indeed be playing Quicksilver.

And here’s why.

After we get the WandaVision series (hopefully this year) we will be getting Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness and there has been a lot of speculation about what exactly the Multiverse of Madness may mean.

The WandaVision series is believed to be a loose adaptation of the House of M series in the comics which saw Wanda basically completely rewriting reality and creating children to her and Vision – and we’re hearing rumours that the series will indeed have the Maximoff kids featured.

Also, since Vision died in Avengers: Endgame but appears here, it’s safe to assume that there will be some reality manipulation afoot, leading to Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness which has been confirmed as starring Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda as well as Benedict Cumberbatch’s Strange.

It has long been a theory that this movie will become the explanation for how exactly Sony’s Marvel movies will be pulled into the MCU –  we know that Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Morbius will be linked to the MCU already – ala how The CW pulled all the DC Universes together in last year’s Crisis On Infinite earths.

There was also a theory that the Multiverse may see Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool coming over into the MCU as we know Marvel/Disney are looking to make more Deadpool movies with the actor moving forward.

So is it possible that Wanda, grieving for her dead brother in WandaVision, might rip a hole in all reality, pulling in Peters’ Quicksilver from the X-Men universe?

Remember a while ago Patrick Stewart said he had spoken about coming into the MCU as Professor X:  “I met with Kevin Feige a couple of months ago and we had long, long conversations. And there have been moves and suggestions, which include Charles Xavier.”

Now, at the time he said that, had they not already filmed Logan, which ended both his and Wolverine’s story in the X-Men universe quite definitively, he would certainly have been open to the idea.

Hugh Jackman too has in the past expressed interest in bringing Wolverine into the MCU too – although he recently spoke about that, saying: “If seven years ago that had happened I’d be like, ‘Oh yeah!’ but I knew it was the right time for me to leave the party—not just for me, but for the character,” Jackman said. “Somebody else will pick it up and run with it. It’s too good of a character not to. It’s kind of like, you’re on your way home and your friend rings you and goes, Oh, dude, a new DJ just came on and the music is awesome, are you going to come back? And you say, Sounds good but… no. They’re fine with someone else.”

But hear me out… what if WandaVision pulls Quicksilver, Deadpool, Wolverine and Professor X (and maybe others) into the MCU long before the events of Logon?

I don’t really foresee any of these characters – except Deadpool – becoming a regular character in the MCU, but I could definitely see any or all appearing briefly as a nod to the other worlds that exist within the Marvel Multiverse.

Just imagine fans’ reactions if Wanda rips open reality and meets… The X-Men!

Not only is that possible, but given all that we’re hearing, the information all adds up to a likely scenario that will see, if not the inclusion of, at least the nod to, the Fox Marvel movies.

According to the report Peters has already filmed his role in late 2019 before this damned virus, so it’s in the bag already.

Whatever happens, if Evans IS in the series as Quicksilver, or whoever, it will be nice to see him in the MCU in whatever capacity.

Thoughts? I wanna hear them…
