Digital Spy are reporting that Matt Smith has confirmed he will continue to play the Eleventh Doctor through Series 8.
In an interview from Saturday’s edition of The Sun’s TV Magazine, Smith says: “I’m on a break for a couple of months while I’m in Detroit making (the Ryan Gosling movie) How to catch a Monster.”
“We come back and shoot the Christmas special over the summer, then we go on to the next series, which will either start filming at the end of this year or at the start of 2014.”
The news comes days after showrunner Steven Moffat confirmed an eighth series was going ahead during this years BAFTA awards.
“This is a thing that just seems to have slipped by… so can I say it very firmly – series eight is absolutely, definitely confirmed,” Moffat said. “It is real and it’s happening – it’s [taking up] most of my time at the moment. Moffat added that he is unsure why some Doctor Who fans remain unclear about the show’s fate. “I get people telling me [that series eight is] not really happening,” he explained. “It really, definitely, honestly is!”
So another series starring Smith has been confirmed! Are we happy about this, fellow Whovians? Or is it time someone else took on the role?
