It looks like this is going to be a great year to be a Doctor Who fan…
Matt Smith has dropped two mad hints today about Asylum of the Daleks and next year’s anniversary show.
He has said that there is a huge twist in Asylum which will allow you to watch the episode only once before being spoilered. He has also said that next year’s anniversary show may be broadcast live. But given that this is Doctor Who, that may be difficult.
Rumours circulating are that this may be a mix of live and pre-recorded material, that Tom Baker is involved and that there will be old Doctors coming back. This is also the first possible confirmation that there will be a specific anniversary show similar to the Three and Five Doctors as Matt has already said which companion he would love to see return and at the end of the day, we need some sort of show, not that dramatisation of the origins of the show but that’s my opinion.
Now fifth Doctor Peter Davison has said he would be happy to lend his voice to an animated/CGI anniversary special given the age of the older Doctors. This is despite his having returned opposite David Tennant in Time Crash where his older appearance was explained. And in sci-fi there is always a way.
Also in the Doctor Who Live tour, recorded material of Matt Smith interacting with the stage cast worked perfectly so as they say, who knows?
