Meet the Munsters from Mockingbird Lane. New cast first glimpse…

August 3rd, 2012 by Owen Quinn Comments

The cast list for the new Munsters series has been announced as it has been revealed Bryan Fuller from Pushing Daisies fame and X Men’s Bryan Singer will write and direct the pilot respectively.

The cast includes Eddie Izzard as Grampa, Jerry O’Connell (Sliders) as Herman, Lily will be played by Portia de Rossi (Ally McBeal) and Mason Cook (Spy Kids) as Eddie and as Marilyn, Charity Wakefield (Hex, Jane Eyre) whose costume seems unaltered from the original as the pic below shows – we’ve also included an image from Entertainment Weekly of how Mockingbird Lane may look in the show above.

They have said this reboot will be a drama/comedy and the Munsters will still do what monsters do, eat people and other monstrous things.
They also said to expect appearances from other Universal monsters.

But the biggest surprise is that none of them look like monsters as the originals did. They all look normal at least going by the first promotional photos. That immediately makes me think it’s the best move ever or sacrilege.
But then no one on the planet could ever hope to match actor Fred Gwynne’s portrayal of Herman, the most fondly remembered big kid Frankenstein’s monster ever.

For me, the Munsters was always fun and worked to make the iconic monster image more child friendly. So with no cast member seemingly dressed as anything other than a normal family, will they be Munsters in name only or will it be the surprise hit? The jury is out until it debuts…
