Steven Moffat has confirmed that River Song will be in the new series of Doctor Who (starting next month)and that the big part of her story has been told. Em, yay?
River, played by Alex Kingston (above) was revealed last season to be the daughter of Amy (Karen Gillan) and Rory (Arthur Darville), the Doctor’s assistants.
This year she’ll appear in episode 5 of the series.
Digital Spy caught up with exec producer Caroline Skinner who said: “She’s so the queen of mischief in this episode.”
Moffat commented on the departure of Amy and Rory, which will also occur in the New York-set episode five, and the later introduction of Jenna-Louise Coleman’s new companion: “When you start that story [of the companion] again, you’ve got a fresh take on it,” he said.
“You’ve got someone who’s bemused by him, who doesn’t know he has two hearts, and you meet him again through their eyes.”
Moffat also said recently that, regarding future series of Doctor Who, he wouldn’t rule out more episodes featuring River Song.
