New animated series Star Wars Rebels officially announced

May 20th, 2013 by Marc Comments

We finally have our answer as to where the fate of the Star Wars animated universe lies. Today StarWars.com announced Star Wars Rebels. The new show will take place in between Episodes III and IV and will depict the birth of the Rebellion as The Empire is busy hunting down all the remaining Jedi who have managed to survive Order 66. The site goes on to say that details are still being held close to the vest at this point.

What they are saying is that the show will have a special one-hour premier in the fall of 2014 on Disney Channel followed by a regular series on Disney XD. As for the talent involved, screenwriter and producer Simon Kinberg of X-Men: First Class fame will serve as executive producer as well as writer for the premier. Serving with Kinberg as executive producer will be fan favorite Clone Wars producer Dave Filoni as well as Young Justice executive producer Greg Weisman.

Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer, Disney Channels Worldwide, said, “The entire team at Lucasfilm has provided extraordinary creativity and innovation for over three decades, and we’re thrilled to be bringing the expansive and imaginative world of Star Wars to Disney XD’s viewers.”

“I couldn’t be more excited to explore new corners of the Star Wars universe,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president, Lucasfilm. “I think Star Wars Rebels will capture the look, feel and fun that both kids and their parents love about Star Wars.”

Lucky attendees of Celebration Europe will get a sneak peek at the show.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
