News series of The X-Files will feature a big fan favourite

August 10th, 2017 by Marc 1 Comment

While not setting the world alight, the return of The X-Files last year certainly sent ripples through the nerd community. And why not? It was the return of Mulder and Scully, two of sci-fi’s most enduring icons.

And we’ve known for a while that another series was coming… and now we have very cool details about it.

Fox Entertainment president David Madden has been talking about the new series and what we can expect, including the return of some fan favourites: “You will see the Cigarette Smoking Man, you may even see, maybe, tips of the Lone Gunmen somehwere in there. There will be other characters from the previous mythology that will be reprised. Eight of the episodes will be standalone stories, more classic X-Files, Mulder and Scully and other characters plunging into [mysteries].”

The lone Gunmen!? Richard “Ringo” Langly, Melvin Frohike and John Fitzgerald Byers are back?! Let’s hope so, as these there conspiracy nuts were a big part of Mulder’s world, with their mad theories and research… also, they were a lot of fun!

As for the season it self? “When we start the [new] season, it will pick up right where the season finale from the last season left off.

“So it’s that big – if you remember the ending, with the helicopters [circling]. It takes you right from there. We will then get launched into a very urgent adventure that will have a lot to do with William, Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully’s (Gillian Anderson) kid. The search for William will thread through the show.”

Looks like this new series in 2018 will be a big return to the full world of Mulder and Scully. Count us in…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
