SDCC: Bryan Fuller talks Hannibal season 3

July 26th, 2014 by Marc Comments

With Hannibal Season 2 having ended – did you see it? Oh wow, that finale was jaw-droppingly great – producer Bryan Fuller took The series to SDCC and he had no problem sharing info on Season 3…

NO MESSING ABOUT HERE – SERIOUS SPOILERS AHEAD

The first big “What?” moment is the return of Dr. Fredrick Chilton (played by Raul Esparza). Fans will remember that he was shot in the face in an interrogation cell in the second season but despite that… he’ll be back.

Season 3 will be laced with characters from Harris’ Hannibal Lecter books, including Commander Pazzi, Lady Murasaki, Mason Verger’s private physician Cordell Doemling and Francis Dollarhyde – having not read the books most of these leave me lost but I’m assured some of them are integral characters.

Season 3 will pick up one year later: “We want to be very vague with who survived that bloody, bloody night.” says Fuller, and it’ll not be until episode four that it will start dealing with the events of THAT night and the year in between.

The first half of the series will hardly have the FBI in it at all and will focus on where Hannibal is on his journey.

It was also revealed that season three will deviate slightly from Fuller’s original plan and will basically be seasons 3 and 4 combined, with a big mid-season break which will effectively round-off one story then pick up another when it returns.

I for one cannot wait for this to return – the finale of season 2 was one of my favourite hours of TV ever and I really hope, going forward, it can maintain the quality.
