HAS the next Doctor already been cast? Members of Doctor Who fan forum gallifreybase seem to think so.
Or at least a large percentage of them think so. While you can never really take fan forums that seriously, after all this is the very same forum that speculated that Christopher Eccelston was actually playing The Master all along and the real Doctor would be revealed in The Parting Of The Ways, there does seem a bit of traction with this one.
A number of weeks ago some posters to the site said that widely respected theatre and television actor Ben Daniels had auditioned for the role because Matt Smith was leaving. Furthermore they said that Daniels had not only auditioned but he had been offered the role and had provisionally accepted.
To add fuel to the fire Daniels is 6/1 favourite to replace Smith with skybet.
I suppose this is a simple case of wait and see. The next few weeks are going to be silly season or will we get an announcement sooner than we expect?
The same betting website has a list of all the odds for the next Doctor but at the top of the page it says “Next Doctor Who Sunday 9th June 10.00”. Take a look for yourself here.
It’s worth remembering that Matt Smith’s name wasn’t mentioned as Tennant’s replacement until the very last minute though.
