With shows like Arrow, The Flash, Legends and Tomorrow and Supergirl, it is easy to forget that DC’s television endeavours had very humble beginnings. I am of course referring to Smallville.
For those who are unaware, Smallville was a show centred around the early days of Clark Kent, before he became Superman. However, the best way to describe the show is a cross between Dawson’s Creek and a superhero show.
The reason I bring all of this up is that there have been talks about Tom Welling returning to the role of Clark Kent/Superman for the TV Series, Supergirl. In a recent interview, Welling spoke on the topic. In it he said, “There are people who would like it, there’s people who don’t like it, but I will you that no one has ever asked me to do it. So, I don’t know. It would be kind of odd. I don’t know who he is at that point. He would obviously be Superman”.
This is obviously referring to the fact that throughout the entirety of Smallville, Welling’s Clark was learning to be Superman, but he never truly played the Man of Steel. Personally though, I would be interested in seeing Welling return to the role. We saw him play the Man of Tomorrow in his formative years for so long, that it would be interesting to see his interpretation of the man when tomorrow does come… That was terrible and I apologise.
