TV REVIEW: FTN reviews Clone Wars S05E02 A War On Two Fronts

October 9th, 2012 by Christopher Williams Comments

The galactic war rages on as the road is paved for the fall of the Jedi…

The people of Onderon are in trouble. They’ve been invaded by Separatist droids and there’s a rebellion in hiding. Anakin brings this to the Jedi Council in the hopes of training the rebels as a proxy army for the Republic. However, the Council is hesitant. Deciding its best to train them so they can defend themselves, Anakin, Obi-Wan, Ahsoka and Captain Rex head off to Onderon.

This is the beginning of a four part story arc of adventures on Onderon. In this episode Anakin and his fellow Jedi train the rebels in the weaknesses of various droids before their rebel base is attacked (Empire anybody?). Along the way we get a sub plot of a four way love… square(?) I guess between Ahsoka, a familiar face from a past arc Lux and two rebel fighters. After successfully repelling the droid attack Anakin decides its time to take the fight to the droids.

This was pretty good episode. It wasn’t spectacular, but it’s just the beginning of what looks to be an exciting story arc. I particularly liked the stealth drop of the team into the Onderonian jungle. A simple scene, but done really well making me think of a secret ops team dropping into a hot zone in a good action movie. The love square plot was a bit of an eye roller and of course we had to have the cliché “I’m a rough soldier who has to give the pretty boy a hard time until he proves himself” story as well. The action here is what saves the day, and some great action we got. Seeing (can’t remember her name) shooting the animal pens open to stampede the invading droids was great. I especially liked the the impressed look on Anakin’s face. My one big confusion with this episode was the end. How after 10 minutes of training and repelling one squadron of droids does Anakin really believe these rebels are ready to take the fight to the Separatists? Oh well, here’s to hoping they won’t all die.

Overall, like I said, it was a good episode. Now that the rebels are on the offensive I’m sure the action and suspense will only pick up from here.
