FTN’s Video Game News #10

February 17th, 2013 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

This week was a let-down in the form of Aliens: Colonial Marines then to tell me The Last of Us is delayed. They are lucky I don’t suffer from depression.

Take Two Confirm WWE Licence Purchase:

A few weeks ago during the THQ mega fire sale it was rumoured that Take Two had obtained probably one of THQ’s most sought after licence, the WWE licence.
This would be a big game for Take Two to take on as it is a yearly release and has some really rabid fans. No seriously you mix your Stone Cold Steve Austin’s with your CM Punks and WWE fans will take you down.

The deal is to be finalised by court later this month but I can guarantee Take Two will get the licence, can’t think of another studio more apt to do a good WWE game.

Spock and Kirk Show You How It’s Done:

In the latest trailer for the upcoming game it shows Spock and Kirk kicking ass as a team. I can’t wait for this game and these bits and pieces that are coming out just make it look all the better. Could this be a film tie in that actually works?

The Last Of Us Delayed Until June 14th:

Yeah that’s right the game that looks to be my game of the year has been delayed by a month. Not that big a deal I suppose and considering Naughty Dog have come out and said “the game deserved a few extra weeks to ensure every detail of The Last of Us was up to Naughty Dog’s Internal high standards” we can assume the game is almost ready and it just being held back for a bit to make it extra special.
I’ll just keep myself occupied until then.

New Batman Arkham Game Due Out This Year:

I know right, so we heard nothing but the purchase of domain names and somehow a game is going to be ready this year?

There are rumours going around that Rockstar will not be the studio to handle the game either, if that is the case then I’ll just leave the building. They done such an amazing job with the last two Arkham games that I can’t see any studio doing any better.

There have also been rumours of a game based in the 70’s silver age of Batman comics, this would be a great idea but Rockstar need to do it.

Mind you this is internet rumours and we know how reliable they always are.

The official statement from John K. Martin (Time Warner Financial officer and chief administrative officer) said “And we also have a strong games release this year, which will include the next release in the Batman Arkham franchise.”

All I know is that dude has a long title at the end of his name.

Deadpool to Be Released Summer 2013:

Everyone’s favourite foul mouthed sarcastic anti-hero’s game will be released in the summer of 2013
According to Joystiq (insert website) Activision have confirmed the Summer 2013 release window.

It’s cool that we might see Deadpool a little sooner than expected. Let’s hope the game is as good as its main character.

Dead Space 3 Goes To The Top Of The UK Charts:

Not surprising to be honest, it’s the only good game out in the last few weeks, I think it will hold onto this top spot for a couple of weeks at least until Crysis 3 comes out.

The reviews have been above average so far for Dead Space 3 and I should have a review up in a week or so.

Aliens Colonial Marines Released This Week to Awful Reviews:

I can’t believe I picked this as my one of the month. Wish I had played it beforehand and I guarantee my one of the month would be different.

Check out my review here to see my full thoughts on this awful game.

Tomb Raider Multiplayer Footage Released:

I’ve been keeping a very close eye on Tomb Raider, the reboot of the franchise from Square Enix. In the last week there has been 11 minutes of gameplay footage with commentary by creative director Noah Hughes. There has also been a short video on Xbox Live showcasing the multiplayer.

I can say without a shadow of a doubt that this game looks to be a blinder. In fact with this and Bioshock Infinite coming out in March it looks to be one crazy month.

Slender The Arrival’s Beta is here (Don’t Turn Around):

Slender The Arrival is the sequel to the scary game Slender the eight pages.
If you pre-order the game then you get access to the beta which allows you to scare yourself silly in a dark room huddled close to your PC.

With updated graphics, more areas and better sounds this games looks to be twice as scary as the last game, meaning hospitals should brace themselves for a mass influx of heart attack patients on March 26th.

Square Enix Registers Wolfenstein and Legacy of Kain Domains:

This could nod towards new Wolfenstein and Legacy of Kain games coming our way. I was never a huge fan of Wolfenstein but Legacy of Kain interests me.
Soul Reaver was one of my favourite games on the PS1 and I’d like to see what it could look like on the next generation of consoles.
It had a great concept and for its time played really well. Let’s hope some news comes out about these games soon.
