FTN’s Video Game News #2

December 22nd, 2012 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

Welcome to another addition of the weekly video game news for FTN.
This week there has been shake ups aplenty, changes and announced DLC so read on for the all the latest.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 Release Date Moved:

The release date of Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 has been changed from January 15th 2013 to Q1 2013. This gives the developer a few more months to perfect which looks to be a great game.
Not by any means a bad thing as recently other developers have been holding back on releases to add finishing touches and those games have come out successful.

Steam Winter Sale Now On:

Who doesn’t love a good sale? Well if you are a PC gamer then this could be the sale for you.
Every winter Steam the online PC game store have a huge winter sale where you could snag yourself one hell of a bargain.
With recent deals like half price off Dishonoured and Borderlands 2 if you have been waiting and don’t expect to receive these as gifts from Santa then maybe you can gift yourself these.
The beauty of Steam is once downloaded your games are there for you to re-download at any time.

Star Trek: The video Game Release Date:

Talk about excited. From the first moment I saw a screenshot from this game my brain almost blew up. As a huge fan of the reimagining of Star Trek and the fact a decent studio had taken the game on board made me happy. It was announced that the game will indeed be released before the new film, with a release date scheduled for April 26th 2013 it should give gamers just enough time to complete the story before going to see Star Trek: Into Darkness.
The story takes place between the first and second film and has you commanding control of both Kirk and Spock in what looks to be a very action centric game.

In other news it was revealed that those who pre-order the game will receive the ‘Elite Officers Pack’ which includes:

The Stealth Pack – Kirk and Spock stealth uniforms, plus Starfleet Type IV Stealth Sniper Rifle and extra ammo

The Brawler Pack – Kirk leather jacket costume and Spock Vulcan Science Academy costume

The Kelvin Pack – Kirk and Spock U.S.S. Kelvin uniforms, plus U.S.S. Kelvin Hand Phaser

The Academy Pack – Kirk Academy Uniform, Spock Officer Dress Uniform, plus Academy Phaser

The Kobayashi Maru Pack – Kirk and Spock Kobayashi Maru uniforms

Borderlands 2 DLC Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt Release Date Revealed:

The new DLC for Borderlands 2 will be released on January 15th 2013. The DLC will take place after the main events of the games campaign. For those wishing to continue their foray in Pandora it will cost you 800 Microsoft points or £7.99 on PSN and Steam.

Battlefield 3 End Game DLC Announced:

The fifth and final DLC for Battlefield 3 called End Game will be released in March 2013, this will bring back capture the flag which has been missing from Battlefield 3. It will also bring in a few new vehicles including a dirt bike and a drop ship, with the drop ship you will be able to drop off vehicles for your team which sounds like a cool idea. The play style on the new DLC is said to be fast and furious which may entice some Call of Duty players who complain about the slog of Battlefield 3.

THQ Files for Bankruptcy:

It’s a sad day when a massive company like THQ file for bankruptcy, it shows how tough the industry is becoming.
THQ president Jason Rubin has said they are using the bankruptcy as “a new start”. They are looking for creditors and chances are they or their affiliates will be bought over quite quickly considering the franchises they own.
The new South Park game and Metro: Last Light will still be released on schedule, we will just need to wait and see what happens to THQ.

Hitman Trilogy HD to Come To PAL:

It was announced last week that North America would receive Hitman Trilogy HD but there was no announcement that Europe would get it.
Good news is Square Enix has officially announced that soon after the North America release we here in the U.K should expect to see the game on our shelves.
It could be something to do with the success of Hitman Absolution but its good news and we here at FTN headquarters are looking forward to playing the old classics in HD. Let’s just hope it’s nothing like the horrible Silent Hill HD remake.
