It’s ok, relax, Spider-man: Miles Morales IS a standalone game

So last night at Sony’s massive PS5 announcement (here) we got a beautifully tantalising look at the new Spider-man:  Mile Morales game, a sequel (or so we thought) to 2018’s hit Spider-man game.

However, we all awoke this morning to see that the game may not be a game at all, but rather… an expansion of Spider-man!

Wut?!

The confusion seems to have come from Simon Rutter, EVP head of European business at Sony Interactive Entertainment who told The Telegraph: “I guess you could call it an expansion and an enhancement to the previous game.

“There’s a substantial Miles Morales component — which is the expansion element — but also within the game as well there’s been major enhancements to the game and the game engine, obviously deploying some of the major PlayStation 5 technology and features.”

However, Insomniac Games have been fast to jump to the social medias to assure us that, no, this is a full game:

It does seem that the game will be smaller than the first Spider-man game (which was, in fairness, a beast) and it being compared to Uncharted: The Lost Legacy in scope.

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy was a spinoff from Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and was a smaller, shorter experience than other Uncharted games and it seems that Miles Morales will be in the same mould.

That said, with Miles Morales being on the new PS5, it’s likely there will be a lot more oompf to it.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be released on the PlayStation 5 this holiday season.
